Published national bands put restroom trailer day rates between $175 and $2,500 and weekend rates between $900 and $3,000, with full event packages running from about $2,499 to $3,899. Six things that move the price up in New York City
Roughly in order of impact:
- Station count. The single biggest driver. Each additional pair of stations moves the weekend figure by several hundred dollars.
- The permit. A trailer on a street or sidewalk needs a Department of Transportation permit, handled through the Bureau of Permit Management and Construction Control at 55 Water Street with the borough offices approving, and turnaround ranges from about a day to several weeks. - Access and routing. Commercial vehicles are banned from the parkway network, so the FDR, the Belt and the Henry Hudson are closed to the tow and routing runs on the NYC DOT truck route network. - Delivery window. Buildings and venues that only allow load-in before 7 AM or after 8 PM push the job into overtime rates.
- Power and water. No outlet means a generator, and on a long jobsite a temporary power pole is cheaper than months of fuel. No tap means scheduled water deliveries. Night work adds a light tower. All separate lines.
- Season. Water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, so winter rentals carry heated tanks, heat-traced lines and higher power draw, as porta potties in winter explains. May, June, September and October Saturdays are the tightest availability of the year.
Three worked jobs with real totals
A Saturday wedding for 180 guests on a park lawn. Portable Sanitation Association International event guidance puts one restroom per 50 to 100 guests over four hours, plus 15 to 20 percent when alcohol is served, which lands on a four-station unit. A luxury four-station weekend runs $1,400 to $2,600, delivery adds $50 to $150, and a park lawn with no outlet needs a generator quoted separately. A six-month Bronx construction job with a crew of 60. OSHA 1926.51(c)(1) requires one toilet per 20 construction workers on a 40-hour week, counted across every trade rather than per contractor, so 60 workers need three fixtures minimum, and the full ratio table is on OSHA portable toilet requirements. A four-station trailer at $2,800 to $4,800 a month comes to $16,800 to $28,800 over six months. Three standard units at $125 to $325 each per month plus a handwashing station is roughly $2,250 to $5,850 for the same period. The trailer is five times the cost, and on most sites the standard units win. Where it flips is a finished interior fit-out, a client-facing site, or a job where the crew otherwise walks ten minutes each way. A two-day film base camp in Long Island City. A two-station trailer at the weekend rate is $700 to $1,300, or $350 to $900 taken as two day rates, and production usually adds a shower trailer on longer shoots. Add after-hours delivery, because the permit that holds the parking comes from the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and the block is only yours in a window. Is a restroom trailer worth it over standard units?
For an event where guests are dressed up, usually yes. For a jobsite, usually no. The honest comparison is fixture for fixture:

What should a fair restroom trailer quote include?
Included as standard: delivery, levelling and setup, pickup, one service on a short rental, the initial fresh water fill, and paper, soap and hand towels.
Reasonably charged extra: additional services, generator rental, winterisation, restricted-hours delivery, permit filing, an attendant, and a dry run when the truck cannot place the unit through no fault of ours.
Should never be extra: an unexplained fuel surcharge, an environmental fee with no definition, or a cleaning charge on a unit returned in normal condition. Ask what each line means. How far ahead should you book, and what else affects the total?
Two to four weeks for a park or venue event, and longer for peak Saturdays. Street placements move at the permit's pace. Same-week bookings are possible on private property, and emergency rental is a separate conversation with its own pricing.
Two more cost factors people miss. First, servicing: ANSI/PSAI Z4.3, the American National Standard for nonsewered waste-disposal systems, sets weekly service as the baseline for a standing unit, and a busy event trailer needs more than that. Second, waste volume: water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon, so a 1,000 gallon tank at capacity is over four tons, and units that fill early need an extra pump.
