What is a 2 stall restroom trailer?
A 2 stall restroom trailer is the smallest towable restroom unit with real plumbing: two separate private rooms, each with its own exterior door, a flushing toilet, a sink with running water, a mirror, a light and a lock. Most builds are configured as one men's room and one women's room, and the men's side often carries a urinal alongside the toilet, which raises throughput more than the floor plan suggests.
It is not a bigger porta potty. A standard portable toilet stores waste in a tank under the seat, typically 60 to 70 gallons on the common PolyJohn and Satellite Industries units. A two-station trailer separates fresh water from waste, which is why it does not develop the smell a sealed unit does. The restroom trailer pillar compares every size in one table.
2 stall restroom trailer dimensions and specs
Typical manufacturer specification ranges for a two-station towable restroom trailer:
| Spec | Typical figure |
|---|---|
| Body length | 14 to 16 ft |
| Body width | 7 to 8 ft |
| Overall length with tongue | 18 to 20 ft |
| Waste tank | 200 to 300 gal |
| Fresh water tank | 40 to 100 gal |
| Dry weight | 2,800 to 4,000 lb |
| Power draw | One 120 V, 20 amp circuit |
| Rooms | 2, each with its own door |
That 20 amp circuit delivers about 2,400 watts under NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code, which is enough for lights, the pump, a small heater and a compact air conditioner but not all four at once on a hot day. Water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon, so a full 300 gallon waste tank adds more than 2,500 pounds to the tow, which is the figure that decides whether a pickup can move it or a one-ton truck has to.
Where a 2 stall trailer fits when nothing bigger will
This is the size that solves New York access problems. At 7 to 8 feet wide it clears a standard driveway curb cut, a garage bay and most Brooklyn brownstone garden gates, and at 16 feet it takes one parking space rather than three.
Placements that work here and rarely work for a larger unit:
- Brownstone rear gardens reached through a ground-floor pass-through in Park Slope, Bed-Stuy and Harlem
- Loading docks and interior courtyards in the Garment District and SoHo
- Private plazas and building forecourts where a 30 foot trailer cannot turn
- Small lots beside Prospect Park and Flushing Meadows Corona Park events
- Film base camps on narrow crosstown blocks, alongside the film set restroom setup
Placement is still decided by pedestrian clearance before anything else. A trailer must never block a curb ramp, a building entrance, an emergency path or a work-zone route, and the 2010 ADA Standards require a minimum 36 inch clear width on a pedestrian access route in section 403.5.1. The placement guide covers what a driver checks on arrival.
Do you need a permit for a 2 stall trailer in New York City?
Yes, if it stands on a street or sidewalk. That placement needs a permit from the Department of Transportation, filed through the Bureau of Permit Management and Construction Control at 55 Water Street with approvals handled by the borough offices, and turnaround ranges from about a day to several weeks. 311 is the fastest route to an answer for a specific address.
On private property, none of that applies. Full detail is on porta potty permit requirements. Being small does not exempt a trailer from the rule. The permit tracks the location, not the length.
What does a 2 stall restroom trailer cost?
| Rental period | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Per day | $175 to $450 |
| Weekend | $700 to $1,300 |
| Per week | $850 to $1,600 |
| Per month | $1,800 to $3,000 |
Market ranges reviewed July 2026, not a quote. Delivery in a per-week context typically adds $50 to $150 and each additional service $30 to $220. The cost breakdown itemises every line, and standard unit pricing is the comparison most people want before deciding.
How many guests does a 2 stall trailer cover?
Portable Sanitation Association International event guidance puts one restroom per 50 to 100 guests for a four-hour event, and recommends adding 15 to 20 percent when alcohol is served. Two stalls therefore covers a ceremony or reception of roughly 100 people, or about 80 once a bar is open.
Past that, either step up to a 4 station trailer or set standard units at the back of house and keep the trailer for guests. Run the number on how many porta potties do I need. For a smaller wedding, the layout advice on wedding restroom rental applies at any size, and event restroom rental covers the wider planning. A portable sink beside the trailer keeps the two vanities free, which on a two-station unit is the difference between a queue and no queue.
2 stall shower trailers and higher-finish builds
Two-station shower trailers exist on the same chassis, usually configured as two private shower rooms or one shower plus one restroom, and they are covered on the shower trailer page. Higher-finish two-station units with solid-surface vanities and wood-look floors sit on luxury restroom trailers, and they price above the table above.
An accessible unit is a different build again. The 2010 ADA Standards cap ramp slope at 1:12 in section 405.2, which means 36 feet of ramp for a 36 inch floor height, so most two-station trailers are not accessible without a lift. Where the sidewalk cannot take a ramp, an ADA ground-level unit set next to the trailer is the working answer. ADA restroom requirements has the full spec.

Booking, service and what we need from you
Service on a two-station unit means pumping the waste tank, refilling fresh water, restocking paper and soap, and wiping down. ANSI/PSAI Z4.3, the American National Standard for nonsewered waste-disposal systems, sets weekly service as the baseline for a standing unit; event trailers often get serviced mid-event instead. See how often units are cleaned for the standard schedule.
Before you call, know the exact address with cross streets and borough, the surface it lands on, whether there is a 20 amp outlet and a hose bib within reach, and whether the spot is public right of way or private property. The rental checklist has the rest. Send it through the quote form or the contact page, and if you need something on the ground today, emergency rental is a separate conversation. Between December and March ask whether the unit is winterised, because porta potties in winter is the one thing that catches people out here.
We deliver across all five boroughs, plus Jersey City, Hoboken and the rest of the areas we serve around New York City. Standard fleet options are on porta potty rental in New York City.
