Placement on a golf course, which is a turf problem first
A standard unit is about 44 inches wide by 48 inches deep and 90 inches tall per manufacturer spec, roughly 150 to 200 pounds empty and near 700 pounds full. That full weight is the number the superintendent cares about, because it is what sits on a green surround if somebody puts the unit in the wrong place.
- Place off cart paths wherever possible, on the tee side rather than the fairway side
- Keep units out of sightlines from tees and greens, behind a mound or a tree line
- Screen them if the event is client-facing, and light the approach for early or late rounds
- Never on irrigation heads, drainage lines or a cart path corner where carts have to swing wide
- Leave the service truck a route it can drive without crossing a fairway

Do golf tournament restrooms need a permit in NYC?
On a private club or on course property away from public right of way, no. A unit standing on a New York City street or sidewalk needs a permit from the Department of Transportation, filed through borough offices, with turnaround running from about a day to several weeks depending on the borough and the type of work. Most outings run standard units on course and something better at the staging area, where sponsors, registration and the post-round reception all sit. A deluxe flushable unit has a foot flush and an interior hand sink in the same footprint, which is usually enough. A charity or corporate event with a dinner attached often wants a 2 stall trailer or a 4 stall trailer instead.
A restroom trailer is a towable unit with flushing toilets, running water and climate control, and it needs a 110-volt 20-amp circuit and a hose connection per manufacturer spec, with fresh water tanks typically 100 to 300 gallons. Any outing with a food station on course needs handwashing near it. Can you place units before the maintenance crew finishes? Usually first light works better for everyone. Give us the superintendent's contact rather than the event chair's.
