Why is almost every Levittown rental identical?
Because the housing stock is. Levittown was built by Levitt and Sons starting in 1947 as the first mass-produced American suburb, thousands of near-identical small houses on near-identical small lots, put up at a pace nobody had attempted before.
Eighty years later those houses are on their third or fourth round of extensions, dormers, kitchen rebuilds and full gut jobs. That is our work here. One standard unit in the driveway, one dumpster beside it, both there for six to twelve weeks. We quote it in about ninety seconds because we have seen the layout before.
The lots are small, and that decides the dumpster
This is the constraint that catches people. A Levitt lot is compact, the driveway is usually a single car width, and the setback to the street is short. Put a big bin on it and there is nowhere left to park, let alone stand a portable toilet.
So a 10 yard or a 20 yard is the realistic choice on most Levittown driveways, not a 30 or a 40. Footprints and capacities are compared on dumpster sizes and dimensions, and what cannot go in a dumpster is worth reading before a demolition starts, because a load that gets rejected at the transfer station costs more than the bin did.
A standard unit is about 44 by 48 inches on manufacturer spec, which fits alongside a bin on most driveways but not all of them. Send a photo with the quote request if you are unsure and we will tell you straight.
What does delivery cost at 27.7 miles?
$125 to $200, the top of our band, because 43 minutes each way is the whole cost driver at this range. Access barely moves it, since a driveway drop takes ten minutes whichever street it is on.
That distance is also why long rentals price much better than short ones out here. One delivery and one pickup spread across three months costs far less per week than the same unit on four separate weekend hires. Monthly rental has those numbers, and the full breakdown with delivery and service as separate lines is on the porta potty rental cost page.
Do you need a permit for a Levittown driveway?
No. Levittown is an unincorporated hamlet inside the Town of Hempstead, and a unit standing on your own driveway or lawn involves no municipal approval at all. That is the opposite of the city, where a unit on a New York City street or sidewalk needs a permit from the Department of Transportation through a borough office, with turnaround from about a day to several weeks.
The only time the question comes up here is a placement in the street or on the verge, which we avoid anyway because the driveway is nearly always the better spot. The city rules, for anyone working both sides, are on porta potty permit requirements, and the practical siting checks are on the placement guide.
Servicing a unit for a three month renovation
Weekly service is the baseline, and ANSI/PSAI Z4.3 sets weekly servicing as the minimum for a portable toilet in normal use. On a residential renovation with three or four trades coming and going, weekly is genuinely enough: a standard unit holds 60 to 70 gallons on manufacturer spec, which is roughly 200 to 250 uses before pumping.
Our driver needs a clear approach and about 30 feet of hose reach, so keep the driveway clear on service day or tell us which day suits and we will fix the route around it. Winter jobs get a different deodoriser mix rather than a different schedule, which is covered on do porta potties smell.
When the job is bigger than a house
Commercial and school work in the surrounding area sizes up the same way any jobsite does. OSHA
1926.51(c)(1) requires one toilet per 20 workers on a site running a 40-hour week, counted by people present rather than by contractor, and OSHA 1926.51(f)(1) adds washing facilities where workers handle harmful substances, so a handwashing station goes on most of those orders. Work it out on how many porta potties you need or see construction site services.
Towns on the same eastbound route
Hempstead at 19.8 miles and North Hempstead at 20.6 miles are the two stops between here and the city, so jobs in more than one of them share a truck. Everywhere we reach is listed with real distances on the service areas page, and how the boroughs compare on access and permits is on the New York City rental page.
