Power, water and the thing that ruins a ceremony
Luxury trailers are electrically hungry. A 120 volt, 20 amp branch circuit delivers about 2,400 watts under NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code, which will run a two-station unit but not a six-station one with air conditioning in both suites. Larger units want 30 or 50 amp service, and on a park lawn that means a generator.
The generator is where events go wrong. Put it downwind and out of earshot, because a diesel set idling 40 feet from a ceremony is audible on every video, and New York's noise code, adopted as Local Law 113 of 2005, sets limits that a badly placed generator can breach at a residential edge. Ask for a quiet enclosure and ask where the cable run goes before the chairs are set. A light tower on the same circuit needs the same conversation.
Water is simpler. A garden hose connection is enough, and where there is no tap the fresh tank is filled at delivery. Waste is not simple: water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon, so a 500 gallon tank at capacity carries over two tons, which is why the truck needs hose-reach access on service day. Where can a luxury trailer go for a New York City event?
Placement is decided by pedestrian clearance before anything else. Never a curb ramp, a building entrance, an emergency path or a work-zone route, and the 2010 ADA Standards require a minimum 36 inch clear width on a pedestrian access route in section 403.5.1.
Beyond that, the venue decides:
- Park events. Prospect Park covers 526 acres, Flushing Meadows Corona Park 897 and Randalls Island Park about 480, and events at all three run under an NYC Parks special event permit applied for weeks ahead. Each has its own service vehicle access rules, and lawn placement usually means matting under the wheels.
- Streets and sidewalks. A trailer standing on the public right of way needs a Department of Transportation permit, filed through the Bureau of Permit Management and Construction Control at 55 Water Street with the borough offices approving, and turnaround ranges from about a day to several weeks. Call 311 for a specific address.
- Rooftops and terraces. Almost never a trailer. A deluxe flushable unit taken up in a freight elevator is the workable answer.
- Private buildings and clubs. Expect a certificate of insurance and a board or management approval before anything is scheduled. That approval takes longer than the trailer does.
- Sidewalk sheds. The Department of Buildings Facade Inspection Safety Program keeps thousands of sheds up across Manhattan and the Bronx, and a shed rules out that frontage entirely.

How many luxury stations does an event need?
Portable Sanitation Association International event guidance puts one restroom per 50 to 100 guests across a four-hour event, and recommends adding 15 to 20 percent when alcohol is served. For a reception that means roughly a two-station unit at 100 guests, four stations at 200, and eight stations at 500.
Do not size to the minimum at a wedding. The whole reason to rent a luxury trailer is that nobody queues in a gown, and one extra station costs far less than the photograph of a line. Accessibility on a luxury trailer
The 2010 ADA Standards cap ramp running slope at 1:12 in section 405.2, so a trailer floor 36 inches above grade needs 36 feet of ramp plus landings. On a park path or a city sidewalk that is rarely available, which is why accessible luxury trailers are normally specified with a powered lift. Section

Service, attendants and booking
ANSI/PSAI Z4.3, the American National Standard for nonsewered waste-disposal systems, sets weekly service as the baseline for a standing unit, but a wedding trailer is a different job. Expect delivery and set the day before, a full stock of paper, soap and hand towels, and either an attendant through the event or a mid-event check. Book two to four weeks out for spring and autumn Saturdays, longer for the peak weekends in May, June, September and October.
